Liposuction, also known as Lipoplasty, Lipo and suction assisted lipectomy, is the most popular body contouring surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms or neck. It removes fat deposits that one is not able to remove after performing vigorous exercise or dieting. It is commonly done and safe in experienced hands. This body contouring procedure permanently removes fatty tissues and the results are everlasting, if the patient maintains his/her weight.
HOWEVER, IT IS NOT A WEIGHT REDUCTION SURGERY FOR OBESITY AND ONLY A BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURE.
It does not help to remove stretch marks and cellulite. One must also remember that if someone puts on weight after the procedure, then the results are not long-lasting. Vaser Liposuction is a specialised liposuction procedure which uses specialised ultrasound technology to break down fat cells by sending out ultrasonic frequency waves. Vaser stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. The main difference between the two procedures is that Vaser liposuction uses very focused thermal energy to destroy the fat cells in the body. This allows Vaser to liquefy the fat cells more efficiently, allowing the surgeon to take out more fat cells compared with traditional liposuction. Vaser liposuction is more expensive than traditional liposuction. Small volume liposuction can be done under local anaesthesia with mild sedation.
